We are Jodie & Rosie, 2 friends with Five Wild Ones between us. We met in 2017 through our eldest children who were friends at nursery and went on to have our youngest children within weeks of each other. With children the same ages we have always been able to directly compare the joys and struggles that come with the varying stages of parenting and childhood. With school aged children and newborns now in tow we regularly found ourselves sharing similar stories of how hard we were finding it to motivate our children to carry out the tasks involved in their daily routine without the nagging that was usually involved on our part and the defiance to listen on our children’s part.
After hearing the same from lots of friends and family we decided that we needed to try and come up with an idea which would make this easier for all.
We set out by designing fun and colourfully illustrated routine cards which could be easily understood for children of all ages, but soon realised this just gave them something to follow, this wasn’t enough - we had to make it fun if it was going to be something they were happy to do each day. This is where the post box and reward card came into play. By combining the fun of posting and a chosen reward that gave the children an incentive to complete their tasks we had created a fun game which encouraged our children to want to complete their daily routine with a lot less stress and struggle than there was before.
After several years of following Reward a Routine, it has now become a part of our family lives, our eldest are very independent in carrying out their daily tasks whilst still having fun negotiating their rewards (that's the really fun part!) whilst our youngest are just starting out and enjoy following their siblings and posting the cards. It’s never too early to be teaching our little ones about the importance of having routine in their day. Even the simplest of routines can provide children with the structure and consistency they need to feel in control, this in turn creates more self security, teaches them independence and creates an all round happier household.
We are so excited about bringing Reward a Routine into your homes and hope your little ones enjoy it just as much as ours do.
